One platform is fragility
Depending on a single platform is fragility. Own your work and keep it portable—switching has a tax, but so does being trapped.
When the model I leaned on got cut off behind a paywall overnight, it made the argument for me: depending on a single platform is fragility. So I keep a copy of my own—the whole vault, downloaded and portable, ready to move.
Owning it doesn't mean I jump ship. Switching has its own tax—another learning curve, and every time I've switched I've hit a regression and learned it again. But being trapped has a tax too. The point is that the choice stays mine, not the platform's.
