Letters to my son

An annual snapshot written as open letters to my son—a family archive that might one day be a book.

This came to me in the shower on Father's Day, with all the grief and all the thoughts I carry about fatherhood. I wanted to capture it—make it an annual tradition. Letters to my son.

A snapshot of where I am in fatherhood right now. An open letter, a love letter, about how I see it at this moment and what life looks like at this moment—something you and I can reflect on when you become a father yourself. A beautiful thing to hand down. Maybe the book I eventually publish.

Part of it is that I want to leave a legacy for you and the family, so that whenever I do pass, there's a history, said out loud, that I love you with every ounce in me. And part of it is selfish—I would have loved to have something like this to read through myself.
