Collective celebration

I don't really follow basketball, and I still got a little emotional when New York finally won—decades of waiting, a whole city exhaling at once. It caught me off guard, until I understood what I was actually feeling.

In a world this divided, watching people come together to celebrate something just feels good. You can find a kind of empathy with the world through a game you don't even follow—not because the game matters, but because the coming-together does.

That's the part worth reaching for. Not the win. The room full of strangers, glad about the same thing at the same time.
