the margin · on attention
Attention is sunlight
Spread your attention across too many things and the one that matters most never grows while the neglected ones rot. The monstera won't get big if you don't feed it.
Before you came along I filled the house with plants—more pots, more leaves, more to remember to water. Then I saw what happens when there are too many. The light only reaches so far.
The monstera in the corner won't get as big, because I'm not giving it the time or attention—it's divided across all the others. Same with the systems I build: a beautiful new one out of novelty, and then it just sits there and rots. No sunlight hits it, the sunlight being my attention.
So the whole thing is about where the light falls. Spread it across everything and the one that matters most never grows. Point it at what you want to grow, and let the rest go.
