Substance before delivery
Delivery has a ceiling set by the material under it—lock the substance first, then rehearse the performance.
Delivery is real—cadence, expression, presence. You have to practice it. But it has a ceiling, and the material underneath sets it. If the thing you're delivering isn't good, the delivery can only go so far.
So get the order right. Build the substance first—the structure, the craft, the detail—and rehearse the performance after. Polishing the delivery of a weak draft is shining the wrong layer.
